Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry calls for policy change after LSU women’s basketball misses national anthem

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry urged state officials to enact a policy that requires student-athletes to be present for the national anthem after the LSU women’s basketball team received harsh backlash for missing the national anthem before its regional final game against Iowa Monday night. The Republican governor became the latest figure to call out the Tigers for being noticeably
absent during the national anthem. A video from OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske showed Iowa players on the court holding hands during “The Star-Spangled Banner” LSU had left the court right before the anthem was played. Neither USC nor UConn were present for the national anthem before their Elite Eight game Monday night. The Tigers haven’t been present for the national anthem all season, and they were not present for it during last year’s national championship.

Finland signs 10-year security pact with Ukraine, to step up military aid
Finland on Wednesday signed a 10-year security pact with Ukraine and will send it a further 188 million euros ($203 million) in military aid, Finish President Alexander Stubb said after meeting Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv. The accord covers security cooperation and long-term support including backing for Ukraine's defense and security against two-year-old Russia’s invasion and for Ukrainian reforms and reconstruction, Stubb’s office said. “The 10-year agreement is proof of Finland’s long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine” it said in a statement. Finland will also provide another package of defense materials including air defense and heavy-caliber ammunition among other things, Stubb said at a joint press conference with Zelenskiy in the Ukrainian capital. He said the fresh aid package would take the total Finnish contribution to Ukraine’s defense from 2022 to around 2 billion euros.
