You may have noticed, that especially in recent years, people have been putting up Christmas decorations up way before the holiday even starts, and sometimes before Halloween. 

One reason that this may be is because, oddly enough, the covid lock-down. With people being able to do less and seeing less people, the Christmas decorations provided a feeling of togetherness. This overall had more people decorating, and the people that already decorated, generally put up more decorations than they had before. This means that naturally, with more people decorating, some more people were decorating early. 

Over some more recent years, Christmas decorations have a greater variety in types, most of which are easier to put up in your yard than the traditional strings of lights. The most important inclusion of decorating technology is inflatables. They are easier to put up because all that you need to do is set them in your yard, stake it to the ground, and plug it in. There are also light “nets” for bushes that are easier to put up than strands of lights when you are putting it on bushes. There are also laser lights that project beams of light on a house, with more types with different designs than there have ever been before. These with many more allow more people to decorate, and as with the lock-down, some more people decorate early. 

A large factor that could have a large impact on how many people decorate early is Halloween itself. With recent times, specifically post lock-down, less kids trick-or-treat now with increases in other Halloween activities like trunk-or-treat. This makes it so that many more people do not get any kids that go to their house on Halloween which makes the need for Halloween decorations go down. This means that since people aren’t doing Halloween decorations or doing much to celebrate the holiday, they are simply just extending their Christmas season with decorations by more time. 

One thing that is newer that is counteracting the early decorators a bit is the increase in Thanksgiving decorations outside such as inflatable turkeys. People do not usually do too much outdoor decoration for Thanksgiving and definitely not as much as they do for Christmas, but it does hold the place that the Christmas decorations may fill until at least after Thanksgiving in late November.
