The 2026 NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament has officially reached the semifinal stage, and the remaining teams have separated themselves as the best in the country. The final four matchups are No. 1 Princeton vs. Duke and No. 2 Notre Dame vs. No. 6 Syracuse, with the games taking place in Charlottesville, Virginia. Princeton and Notre Dame entered the postseason as favorites, but both Duke and Syracuse have shown they can compete with anyone left in the field.
Princeton’s biggest strength has been its balanced offense and ability to control possession. The Tigers move the ball quickly and rarely force bad shots, making them difficult to defend for a full game. Duke, meanwhile, has relied on physical defense and transition opportunities, but inconsistency in late-game execution has hurt the Blue Devils throughout the season. Notre Dame continues to look like one of the most complete teams in college lacrosse, especially defensively, while Syracuse has used explosive scoring runs to upset stronger opponents.
Several players have become must-watch stars during the tournament. Princeton attackman Coulter Mackesy has been one of the most efficient scorers in the bracket, while Notre Dame midfielder Jordan Faison continues to dominate in transition. Syracuse goalie Jimmy McCool has also emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest difference-makers after multiple clutch performances. Duke’s athletic midfield remains dangerous if the game turns fast-paced.
With only four teams remaining, every possession becomes more important. Princeton and Notre Dame may be the favorites, but Duke’s physicality and Syracuse’s offensive firepower could easily create another upset-filled weekend. The championship race now feels completely open heading into Memorial Day weekend.
