The NHL playoffs have reached the conference finals, and no team has looked stronger than the Carolina Hurricanes. Carolina enters the Eastern Conference Finals with a perfect 8-0 playoff record after sweeping both the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers. They are now waiting to face either the Buffalo Sabres or Montreal Canadiens. In the Western Conference, the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights continue battling for a spot in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Hurricanes’ biggest strength has been their complete team play. Carolina has received strong goaltending from Frederik Andersen while also getting scoring contributions from Sebastian Aho, Seth Jarvis, Taylor Hall, and Jackson Blake. Their aggressive forecheck and disciplined defense have overwhelmed opponents throughout the postseason. Coach Rod Brind’Amour has kept the team focused and consistent every game.
Even with the undefeated playoff run, Carolina still has weaknesses to improve. Their power play has struggled at times, and the team now faces a long break before the Eastern Conference Finals begin. Some analysts worry the extra rest could slow down the momentum that made Carolina so dangerous during the first two rounds.
Still, the Hurricanes have become the story of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Winning eight straight playoff games is extremely rare in NHL history, and Carolina has done it while looking like the most balanced team left in the postseason. If the Hurricanes continue getting elite goaltending and timely scoring, they may finally be on their way to another Stanley Cup appearance.
