Giselle Miller, a student artist at Page Highschool, centered her work this year around the question: how are emotions and experiences connected to music? Through a series of pieces, she explored how music can influence personal meaning, memory, and visual expression.
One of her works, “Swan,” was inspired by the ballet Swan Lake. In this piece, Giselle aimed to show how music can come to life beyond notes on a page. She incorporated visible musical notes within the swan itself to emphasize its connection to the original composition.

Another Piece, “Me,” reflects Giselle’s personal experience with synesthesia, a condition that allows her to visualise music through colors and shapes. Using the song “Six Day War” as inspiration, she translated what she hears into visual form, allowing the music to guide the direction of artwork.

Her final piece, “Lovers,” takes on a more somber tone. Set during WWI, it portrays a woman coping with the loss of a loved one. The artwork highlights both grief and comfort, showing how music can serve as a source of remembrance and emotional healing even in difficult times.

Through her collection, Giselle demonstrates how music is not only something to be heard, but also something that can shape emotions, memories, and artistic expression.
