The Page High School boys’ basketball team started its preseason with a strong performance in a scrimmage against Northeast Guilford. They impressed fans with quick ball movement, solid defense, and steady composure. The Pirates controlled much of the game and appeared confident in this early season test.
One of Page’s standout perimeter players energized both sides of the court. He started fast breaks and set the defensive tone throughout the scrimmage. His effort helped the Pirates keep their momentum during key moments.
The team also benefits from senior forward/guard Ryan Rios, who has shown steady improvement. Rios faced challenges last season in consistently creating offense and still makes occasional mistakes. However, he appeared noticeably more confident in the scrimmage. He showed better decision making, stronger drives, and a clearer understanding of his role. These signs indicate that he is developing well.
Yet, the Pirates know their season opener will be a much tougher challenge. Greensboro Day School has its usual powerhouse reputation, and this year’s lineup includes several college commits. This gives them size, experience, and high-level skill at nearly every position. Their disciplined style and talented roster will test Page from the start.
If the Pirates can build on what they showed against Northeast Guilford, they may be more competitive than expected and a team to watch as the season begins.
