The Seattle Seahawks leaned on a powerful run game and timely passing from quarterback Sam Darnold to secure a 27–17 victory over the New England Patriots in this year’s Super Bowl.
The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find rhythm on offense. Seattle established the run early behind Kenneth Walker III, but drives often stalled before reaching the end zone. New England faced similar challenges, as quarterback Drake Maye and the Patriots offense had trouble gaining momentum. At halftime, the Seahawks held a narrow 10–7 lead in a game that felt like it could swing either way.
In the second half, however, both teams began to open up their playbooks. The Seahawks continued to rely on Walker, who consistently powered through defenders and controlled the tempo of the game. Walker finished the night with 24 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown, setting the tone for Seattle’s offense.
When the Patriots defense stacked the box to stop the run, Darnold stepped up. He delivered key completions on third down and threw two touchdown passes that shifted the game in Seattle’s favor. Darnold finished 22 of 31 for 245 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, showing poise when his team needed it most.
The Patriots, on the other hand, did not play up to the Super Bowl standard many expected. Their offensive line struggled throughout the game, allowing constant pressure on Maye and limiting the effectiveness of the run game. While the offensive line deserves much of the blame, Maye also couldn’t get the offense moving consistently. He ended the night 19 of 33 for 210 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Missed opportunities and stalled drives kept New England from mounting a serious comeback.
Although the second half featured more explosive plays from both teams, the Seahawks balanced attack and ability to capitalize on key moments ultimately made the difference. Seattle’s commitment to the run game opened up opportunities in the passing game, while their defense tightened up when it mattered most.
With the 27–17 victory, the Seahawks proved that in spite of all the doubt in the first weeks leading up to the season they are more than capable of winning even on football’s biggest stage.
