Pirate Baseball Preview: Expectations Before Game One

With Spring less than a few weeks away, the Page Varsity Baseball squad is preparing for its first few games this week. After cancelling the first game scheduled for this afternoon, the Pirates will play their season-opener at home on Friday March 1st against T. Wingate Andrews (Red Raiders) out of High Point, starting at 5:00PM.
After going 14-11 last season and taking a tough 1-0 loss to the Grimsley Whirlies in the first round of the playoffs, the Pirates are ready to get back on the field. With the 17-man roster being composed of largely Seniors, the Pirates have no shortage of talent and leadership heading into this season. The Pirates’ talent heading into this season includes RHP Jake Knapp and Catcher CJ Arnold; who are committed to UNCW and Methodist University(Fayetteville) respectively. Other returning seniors include Outfielders Garrett Willett and Brodie Nishan, as well as pitchers such as Kobe Williams and Keyshawn McAdoo. The Pirates also are stocked with infielders, including Shane Bartels and Landon Schneider. With plenty of other talented seniors, expectations for this year’s squad are high. Senior Jake Knapp reflects, “I am very excited for the upcoming season. We have a good group of seniors and a lot of experience which allows us to have success in close games. We are striving for a home playoff game and a playoff win as those are the two things that our senior class hasn’t witnessed.”
Good luck to the Pirates as they prepare to face the Red Raiders at 5PM this Friday!
