Charles McDougald- Senior and 3 year starter

Spencer McClure- Sophomore and 2 year starter

Alex Spicer- Junior and 2 year starter

Comments on Key Returnees:

We will be leaning on our returning wrestlers to both succeed on and off the mat this year. That means that I expect them to lead our young guys by example as well as be the positive influences around the school that they are capable of being.

Key Newcomers with Position:

Tyrone Ashley- Freshman 106 lbs., Conference Champion and Ranked #5 in State as an 8th Grader

Bill Osteen- Junior and incorporating skills learned from lacrosse

Will Woodburn- Freshman and Ranked #5 in State as an 8th Grader

Comments on class of Key Newcomers:

Though we will be bringing on a vast majority of freshmen and sophomores this year, we have the fortune of having quite a few underclassmen who have been ranked in the Top 10 for the state of North Carolina last year as well as multiple middle school Conference Champions. The younger wrestlers will be a large component in us competing for conference dominance.

Team’s Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths: The caliber of talent that we have ranging all of the way from our couple of seniors, all the way down to our rising freshmen. We also have the fortune of having multiple coaches with multiple styles of wrestling backgrounds that I have brought aboard this season. This gives us the ability to find each individuals specific talents and weaknesses to help better them in their skills.

Weaknesses: Our lack of experience at the high school level. Both my assistant coaches and I as well as many new faces that will be wrestling for Page this year. We will also have to build a team chemistry that other teams will already have. This is common for teams with new coaches and many new faces on the team.

Goals/Challenges for the season:

Our goal as a team will be to compete to win our Conference Championship as well as successfully represent Page Athletics in tournaments, Regionals, and States throughout our wrestling season. Our biggest challenge in doing so will come from the very young team that we have and developing our inexperience as both coaches and wrestlers at the high school level.

Coaching Changes/Year:

As a coaching staff, Coach Tim Geldner, Coach Carson Wofford, and I, are putting a heavy focus on conditioning and the mastering of techniques and form this season. Though winning and being as successful as possible is important to us as a team, we strive to make every individual that walks into the wrestling room a better wrestler, student, and person in general. If this is taken care of, all of the other pieces will fall into place.

Comments about: program, potential news stories, etc.:

Our program looks to shock and upset some teams this season all the way through conference, regionals, and states. I want to not just build a winning team this season, but also begin the process of building a tough and dominant program here at Page for years to come, where the wrestlers are highly successful both in the classroom and on the mat.

Thanks Coach Ashley for taking the time to fill this out for Pages by Page!
