Men’s Lacrosse Season Preview

The brothers are back! A new head coach, Newton Babb, will instruct this year the Varsity Men’s Lacrosse team. Some key players that will be returning to the team this spring are Mathew Ferner- Defense, Jack Maginnes- Attack, Bryan Bell Midfield, Parker Pearsall- Attack, and Bill Osteen- goalie, Elliot Holden- Attack, Mac Maultsby- Midfield, Bill Osteen-goalie. Babb has stated, “Jack is one of the best attackmen in the area and this year he will prove his case. He is a very fluid player that understands the flow of a successful offense.” To Babb, leadership plays a very important role. He says,”Mac is a strong leader both on and off the field. Maultsby will step up for us this year in adding more goals in the back of the net because he is a smart player and sets himself up for success.” Defensively Babb states, “Osteen and Ferner bring incredible lacrosse knowledge to the team. Those two players I can sit down with and have a full on conversation about just lacrosse and they can follow along and even add ideas to the team. They both lead the defense very well. Bill is a great vocal leader that shows players what they can fix and does not show them how they messed up. Matthew has a tenacity about himself that cannot be matched on the field and most offensive players do not want #4 guarding them.” One newcomer to keep an eye out for is Pierce Hudson who is a freshman this year and will be playing on Varsity. One goal the team has set out for this year is to win the Conference championship for the third year in a row. Their ultimate goal however, is to strive to make the state championship even though it will be a reach, it is very achievable. Coach Babb states, “Page has one the most rare lacrosse teams in the state. They have always had the athletes to perform at the highest level.”
