Remembering Coach Legnetti

This summer, on August 5th former Page cross country and track and field coach Phil Legnetti lost a long fight with cancer. Coach Legnetti was diagnosed about three years ago with stage four cancer. Legnetti passed away at the age of 66.

Phil Legnetti lived a very successful and eventful life. Coach Legnetti was born on May 21st, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York. Coach Legnetti attended the University of Clemson on a track and field scholarship.  He got his B.A degree in education, and also got his MEd degree while at Clemson. Coach Legnetti also taught chemistry here at Page.

Coach Legnetti was always known for being a great coach and a great man. He was a great leader and encourager. Drew Lake, class of 2015 cross country and track and field runner says “I remember my sophomore year; I won the indoor county championship for the 3200. He was right at the finish line waiting for me; once I crossed the line he gave me a huge hug. I will never forget the joy he had on his face seeing me win.” Junior Freddie Marx says “He was always a positive inspiration and never failed to push us to our potential.” Coach Phil Legnetti will always be remembered and missed here at Page.
