Perfect Season

Perfect Season

The Men’s tennis has come home as State Champions! After waiting nearly six hours to start their match, the Pirates finally started playing. Mason Kolls won court four to start it off, quickly followed by Charlie Snipes pulling out a win on court six, and followed by Jack Oldis pulling out a win on court 3. On court one, Hardy Brown was unable to come out with a win, and the Henry Enochs has a tough go of it on Court 5. After about forty-five minutes of playing, his forearm began to cramp, but he managed to continue playing through that. Soon after, both of his calves began to cramp, and again he managed to play through that for quite a while. Henry was winning the match and on match point hit a shot and fell to the ground, screaming in pain, unable to get back up. After the hard fight he put up, Henry was forced to forfeit because he was unable to play the last point. Michael Bass began his match with his team leading 3-2.  After a match-winning doubles match in the semi-finals against R.J. Reynolds, he managed to get the team another big win in a long, thrilling match on court three to give the team a 4-2 lead heading into doubles. Henry Enochs was unable to play doubles so Grant Jacob had to take his place and played with Michael Bass. The other matchups were Jack Oldis with Mason Kolls and Hardy Brown with Charlie Snipes. The team needed one doubles win to win the match, and as Hardy and Charlie approached match point, the team started to get anxious. When they got their last point to give the Pirates the 5-2 win, the crowd erupted and the team sprinted down to the court and engulfed the two. After a long ten hours at the UNC tennis courts, the Pirates were finally the State Champions. After the match, Coach Hogewood presented Grant Jacob with the Sportsmanship award and Michael Bass with the Most Valuable Player. The Pirates were 18-0, ending with a picture perfect season. Be sure to congratulate the Pirates on their win!
