Cultivating Confidence for the Conference Championships

As the Women’s golf team closes out our last conference match before the 18 hole conference tournament, the Pirates maintain a strong lead. The team hopes to get another conference title. “I want all of us to perform our best on the biggest stages- conference, regionals, and states” says Debra Jones, women’s coach, with high hopes. With many positive thoughts after our last match on Thursday, I think we can keep it up entering the 18 hole match-we played really well, and as a team we continue to hit levels we had never hit in my four years playing golf here at page. The golf team also has high remarks for the season so far, as Page has not had a team this strong in many years. Starting off with the loss against Rockingham was low, but the Page’s girls have been on a winning streak since then. Breaking new records, like shooting a 109 as a team for nine holes, has given the us a new sense of hope for what’s to come. “I feel like the season has allowed for growth” said Ava Besecker, a senior and number four on the team. She also said that “having three news girls has also relieved some of the pressures of last year.” This year, Page golf brought in Harper Sheperd, a sophomore here at Page High School, and number two on the team as well as Meredith Fennie and Meera Mehta.
