Conference Champs Have Tough Regional

This season our women here at Page High have truly given tennis their all. On October 8th and 9th, the conference tournament was held for individual players. This meant the team had the option of sending in three single players and three sets of double players, making nine women sent in total. Number one on the team, Marion Sloyan was chosen to be one of the single players. Sloyan won the conference matches and then moved on to regionals. This makes a total of 7 out of  9 of the players chosen moving on to regionals. Sadly, there, Page players had not moved through the regionals in order to progress to the state tournament level.

During the team conference tournaments, the Pirates claimed their victory moving onto the second round of playoffs during the middle of this week on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, October 23rd would be their last match of the season. The varsity team lost to Hough High School (from Cornelius, NC) with a score of 5-1. Although it was quite a challenging season for the Women’s Varsity Tennis team here at Page, the women still worked together as a team and supported one another during individual tournaments. The team has progressed more than just on the court and has built an everlasting bond with one another. When asked how this season went in her own opinion Marion Sloyan stated: “Even though we are unable to continue this season the relationships and family-like environment is something I will never forget.” These relationships will hopefully build a stronger season in the year of 2020 and continue to help us spread our Page high spirit!
