Michael Sosa, senior at Page High, was nominated for the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award and Scholarship. The school board chooses one senior per school to be nominated for the award and scholarship. To be nominated to win this award the senior has to be themselves, help others along the way, have a good attitude, and show independence and leadership. Michael is the president of the Human Experience Club as well as president of Leo Service Learning Ambassadors. He is part of Burrito Bikers which delivers burritos to the homeless in Center City Park. He is also involved in the campaign #MoreThanAStereotype which is partnered with National Conference for Community and Justice. When Michael takes part of #MoreThanAStereotype he holds a sign that says a stereotype that defies with him and he wants others in the community to be aware of. They do this to create a more inclusive learning environment. He is involved in many service orientated projects that strive to help others. When Michael was asked how it felt to be nominated for this award he said, “It makes me realize that people are aware of my actions. They are also aware of my philosophy which is to not judge others based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, ability, or their socioeconomically status. I want to help those who are struggling and that are what I like to do. I like to advance the community here at Page. So it feels great to be nominated for this award even though I do what I do to help others.” Michael will participate in the scholarship program if he wins. The scholarship goes towards college tuition, but only if he wins at a regional, state, or national level. Michael hopes to attend UNC or NC State. He would like to double major in biology on the pre-med track and in political science.
