Sydney Mayes, a sophomore at Page, went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with First Presbyterian Church over the summer. On the mission trip they built houses in La Romana, Dominican Republic. They also worked with the children by doing Vacation Bible School in a Batéy, where people in poverty live in the Dominican Republic. When asked how the experience was Sydney said, “It was fun overall, and a great experience. I hope to get to go on a mission trip again.” Sydney was asked what her favorite part was and she said, “Meeting the kids that stayed at the house we stayed. They were nice and taught us Spanish.” Initially, rather than going places out of the country such as the Dominican Republic, you could try going on a mission trip in the country to get yourself started.
