Club Corner: Future Teachers of America

The Future Teachers of America serves as a recruitment organization for the teaching profession. The club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month after school either in the media center 4:00-4:45pm or at one of their favorite restaurants from 6:00-7:00pm. If you love to work with children and are thinking about teaching as a profession then join FTA!  The club wants members who truly want to make an impact in a child’s life. They want your time, dedication, commitment and passion for teaching. The clubs goal is to provide their members with the knowledge of the role of education in a democratic society, student’s role as a change agent in which they explore leadership experiences and they develop community partnerships. They work with elementary students in our neighboring schools which includes Irving Park, Cone, Jesse Wharton, Mendenhall, and Aycock to help them reach their highest academic potential. This year the club collected warm coats for students at Cone Elementary and participated with them in their Fall Festival. The club, for the second year, has raised awareness about leukemia.  They raised over $900.00 this year for “Light the Night” celebration and the club members will work with ACES children in the spring to spread the joy of reading and influence them to read more. If you would like to join this club then contact Ms. Seaver for more information.
